From Alice Spring to Kings Canyon

We are a married couple and we'll come from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon driving a car (not 4x4) on January 2009.

My question is what way we have to go, or what is better. Is is it neccessary to drive on Mereenie Loop Road, or is there a road totally tarmac?

Thanks in advance!!

The road is selaed all the way to Kings Canyon

The Mereenie Loop Road is a short cut from the West MacDonnell Ranges to Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon).

You can always go the long way round, south from Alice Springs on the Stuart Highway, then turning towards Uluru onto the Lasseter Highway, and then north again onto the Luritja Road. It's sealed all the way to Kings Canyon Resort.

After all, the big coaches have to be able to get there, too...

Sealed bitumen or Gravel

So is the Red Centre Way sealed bitumen or only gravel? I can't seem to find a definite answer.

Both

Well, it includes the Mereenie Loop Road, so if you click on the link you can see what that's like. The rest is sealed.
