Planning to attend

by Fire Praise
(Everett, WA, USA)

Having visited some of the nearby "national treasures" such as Lake Tahoe and Yosemite, the masses have disrespectfully trashed these areas in search of solitude only to bring with them their multi-million dollar ideas of commercialisation along with other "comforts" at the expense of their surroundings. I have grown so sick of the ignorant and contemptuous disrespect some folks have towards the sacred traditions of the preceding cultures in these lands. I'd expect no different at Uluru, sadly.

I love the outdoors. Yet, I was also taught, by example, to respect the purveyors/ caretakers of the land in which I am merely a guest. I will not be climbing Uluru out of respect for the Aboriginal tribes in the area. I'll take a guided copter tour over Uluru, if permitted by the Tribes. Otherwise, I'll just admire from a distance and allow for the memory of my presence to be recorded in my heart.
