Camping in Nitmiluk

by Hannah
(Sydney)

We are going to Katherine Gorge next week, but unfortunately because of the delayed dry season, the overnight canoe trip is off limits.

I still want to camp in the park, and am wondering if there are any other bush camps available or if the only place to camp in the gorge is at the Nitmiluk camp site?

Would love to know!
Also, what a great site! I love your conversational tone.

Camping in and near Katherine Gorge
by: Birgit

Hi Hannah,

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like the site :-).

The Nitmiluk National Park Campground is not in the gorge. It's reasonably close to the Katherine River, at a point not far from the start of the first gorge.

There are bushcamping sites in the gorge for canoeists and bushcamping sites on the rim of the gorge for walkers. (On the rim does not mean right on the edge with a view. Just somewhere up there.)

My guide Destination Top End goes into great detail about all this.
